Summary

Overthinking isn't a personality trait。 It's the sneakiest form of fear。

It steals time, creativity, and goals。 It's the most expensive, least productive thing companies invest in without even knowing it。 And it's an epidemic。 When New York Times bestselling author Jon Acuff changed his life by transforming his overthinking, he wondered if other people might benefit from what he discovered。 He commissioned a research study to ask 10,000 people if they struggle with overthinking too, and 99。5 percent said, "Yes!"

The good news is that in Soundtracks, Acuff offers a proven plan to change overthinking from a super problem into a superpower。

When we don't control our thoughts, our thoughts control us。 If our days are full of broken soundtracks, thoughts are our worst enemy, holding us back from the things we really want。 But the solution to overthinking isn't to stop thinking。 The solution is running our brains with better soundtracks。 Once we learn how to choose our soundtracks, thoughts become our best friend, propelling us toward our goals。

If you want to tap into the surprising power of overthinking and give your dreams more time and creativity, learn how to DJ the soundtracks that define you。 If you can worry, you can wonder。 If you can doubt, you can dominate。 If you can spin, you can soar。

To be honest, I never really slowed down enough to think about my thoughts。 Soundtracks has changed my life in less than a month more than any other "self-help" book I've read - and I've read dozens。 This book is different, in the best way。 My biggest takeaway was a simple and profound statement, "don't fight it, flip it。" Instead of beating myself up for having negative thoughts, I'm learning to have a new "playlist" or anthem。 Making a "Best Boss" and "Worst Boss" list really hit home。 I have To be honest, I never really slowed down enough to think about my thoughts。 Soundtracks has changed my life in less than a month more than any other "self-help" book I've read - and I've read dozens。 This book is different, in the best way。 My biggest takeaway was a simple and profound statement, "don't fight it, flip it。" Instead of beating myself up for having negative thoughts, I'm learning to have a new "playlist" or anthem。 Making a "Best Boss" and "Worst Boss" list really hit home。 I have a running list of new soundtracks that have propelled me forward in my business and helped me be a better mom。 The coolest part is, I am sharing what I learned with our kids。。。 I'm helping them have new soundtracks and thoughts about themselves。。。 wow, imagine getting a head start as a child and eliminating the broken lies we tell ourselves! I also loved the research and stats in the book。 You aren't alone。 It isn't just a feel good book, it's action inspiring。 If you get the opportunity to take the Soundtracks Course, it's an amazing way to solidify the concepts。 If you are a mom struggling with trying to balance life and work, you'll love this book because it's so practical。 I now have a coin on my desk to remind me to "flip it, don't fight it。" Recognize the broken soundtrack and flip it into a brand new one。 Jon gives so many examples and you have the freedom to make your own, don't overthink it! I confidently know that I can be an intentional mom AND grow my business at the same time。 Soundtracks helped me reframe my thinking and it will help you too。 I ordered copies for my team and even the mailman。 This book was life giving and the world is a better place because of it。 It will be a go-to gift for me to give for graduations, weddings and baby showers (what mom doesn't over think?) I'm excited for the ripple effect of changed soundtracks。 。。。more

I jumped at the opportunity to read Jon Acuff’s Soundtracks as it promised to address overthinking - an issue that has plagued me for years。 Seriously。 Overthinking has turned conversations awkward, complicated my decision making and held me back from who I am created to be。 Soundtracks taught me how to recognize negative thought patterns and to challenge them to unlock my capacity。 I never realized how tough I was on myself。 I’ve always been skeptical of the cheesy “positive vibes lifestyle,” b I jumped at the opportunity to read Jon Acuff’s Soundtracks as it promised to address overthinking - an issue that has plagued me for years。 Seriously。 Overthinking has turned conversations awkward, complicated my decision making and held me back from who I am created to be。 Soundtracks taught me how to recognize negative thought patterns and to challenge them to unlock my capacity。 I never realized how tough I was on myself。 I’ve always been skeptical of the cheesy “positive vibes lifestyle,” but when I truly reflected I found ‘skeptical’ was an understatement。 I left little to no room for positivity in my thought life。 Now, don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t all incense and energy bracelets。 Jon’s work presented practical applications based on science, with just the right amount of quoted research。 His easy-going style and humor made this a quick read with great impact。 I’ve followed Jon for years an am slightly embarrassed to say this is the first book of his I’ve read。 Suffice it to say, the rest are on order! Perhaps it’s just the rough year we coming off of, but I think Soundtracks hit at the right time to awaken my passions。 I am so excited for what the future holds armed with this information。 。。。more

Soundtracks set just the right tone for this chapter of my life。 Future me is grateful that Jon Acuff cared enough to share his own struggles with overthinking, not to mention some insanely practical methods that he has developed to overcome those negative thoughts that seem to play on repeat。 Jon’s vulnerability and humor really made this so easy to read and follow。 If you have ever talked yourself out of trying something new or convinced yourself that you can’t possibly do things differently, Soundtracks set just the right tone for this chapter of my life。 Future me is grateful that Jon Acuff cared enough to share his own struggles with overthinking, not to mention some insanely practical methods that he has developed to overcome those negative thoughts that seem to play on repeat。 Jon’s vulnerability and humor really made this so easy to read and follow。 If you have ever talked yourself out of trying something new or convinced yourself that you can’t possibly do things differently, then, Soundtracks may be just what you need to turn down the dial on those limiting beliefs and replace them with a new approach。 This book has helped to reinforce the truth that progress doesn’t have to be monumental at every step to move us forward, and spare change really does add up。 。。。more

Another great book from Jon Acuff。 Reading his book felt like he was telling my story about Overthinking。 It was great to hear that I am not alone in overthinking。 I loved his practical and easy advice on how to change your Soundtracks。 I would definitely recommend this book to anyone!

When I first saw that Jon was going to write a book about overthinking, I knew it was one I had to read。 The only problem is that when it came to preordering, I left the book in my cart for over a week before finally purchasing it。 Why? The truths that Jon throws in this book had me really dissecting the overthinking in my life。 I never really considered myself an over thinker but I realized, through this book, that there were a few areas in my life in which I was overthinking a situation。 I have had so many conversations in my head with people that have hurt me in the past。 I have had a whole half hour pass by of a conversation and words I should have said that never actually happened。 I never realized I was actually overthinking! I have needed this book for so long。 The language is so approachable and resonates with the idea of creating a playlist。 I've long believed that our negative beliefs controlled our actions, however, I love the practical simplicity of this book。 Even if you think you've read everything on positive thinking, you'll want to read this book and share it with your friends, family, church, organizations you belong to, and the company you work for to make everything around you stronger。 Jon is not only I have needed this book for so long。 The language is so approachable and resonates with the idea of creating a playlist。 I've long believed that our negative beliefs controlled our actions, however, I love the practical simplicity of this book。 Even if you think you've read everything on positive thinking, you'll want to read this book and share it with your friends, family, church, organizations you belong to, and the company you work for to make everything around you stronger。 Jon is not only knowledgeable but also is vulnerable enough to share this from the approach that he is a fellow traveler so you are not alone。 。。。more

My biggest critic has always been the voice in my head, and he's a real jerk。 Soundtracks doesn't just silence that critic, it replaces it with a supportive and encouraging voice。 Don't let your internal jerk keep you from your dreams and goals。 My biggest critic has always been the voice in my head, and he's a real jerk。 Soundtracks doesn't just silence that critic, it replaces it with a supportive and encouraging voice。 Don't let your internal jerk keep you from your dreams and goals。 。。。more
